We have something new and exciting we’d like to share with you! It’s the new Gethsemane United Baptist Church toolbar – once added to IE or Firefox, each time you shop at more than 1,300 stores (from Amazon to Zazzle!) a percentage of your purchase will automatically be donated to Gethsemane United Baptist Church – at no cost to you (and you may even save money as the toolbar provides coupons and deals as well!). The toolbar also has a search box and each time you search the Internet, about a penny is donated to Gethsemane United Baptist Church. http://www.goodsearch.com/toolbar/gethsemane-united-baptist-church

And please pass this along to all of your friends. The two minutes it takes to add this toolbar to your browser can make a lifetime of difference!

I just learned that an old family friend, Norma Black, passed away this evening. She was married to the man that was our pastor when I was a kid. Please remember her family at this time of loss.

Sis Heather Cook sent me a message a few minutes ago; her dad is about to go in for emergency surgery on his stomach. As you will remember, he has been on our list recently a few times as he’s had some very serious health problems of late. Please continue to remember him, Heather, and their families when you pray.

Pastor’s Corner

Pastors Corner 1-1-2012

I hope that each of you had a great Christmas and I want to share with you some thoughts about the upcoming year. Today is New Year’s Day and a lot of people celebrated its arrival last night at twelve o’clock with a lot of noise and fanfare. One sad thing is that for most of the people celebrating last night, this year will not be much different than last year. The fact is that people make grand vows and New Year’s resolutions that they will change something in their lives, but only a small percentage follows through with them more than a few days. Most will go on with their lives and repeat the process again next year. It is not that we cannot change behaviors, but we lack motivation or a clear incentive to change. In the Bible we can find hundreds of reasons to change our lives and I would like to offer only one. In Mathew 25:31-46 tells us about Jesus returning and separating Christians and non-Christians on the Day of Judgment and giving life eternal to one and to the other everlasting punishment. Neither resolutions or good intentions will make a person ready for heaven, salvation only comes through Jesus.

I just received a note from Sis Heather about her dad’s condition that I wanted to share:

They’re prepping my dad for surgery so please say an extra prayer. He had a rough nite and there are a few things that could cause complications. Thanks for all the prayers so far. Love you guys!

Please continue to keep him and the family in your prayers.

This prayer request came via email today. Please remember this family when you pray.

From Kimberly Fry (Homer Fry’s Daughter, Dave is Homer’s son-in-law) My brother-in-law, Dave Davis, got an updated diagnosis on his cancer today. It is a rare combination of hodgkins and non-hodgkins, which will require a more aggressive treatment. He’s facing chemo and a bone marrow transplant. Please keep him and the family in your prayers. If your church has a prayer chain or prayer list, please put him on there. Thanks.

My neighbor, Mary O’Neil, had to be taken to the hospital via ambulance a few minutes ago. She is an elderly lady who’s had different health problems in the past; I’m not certain what is wrong right now. I promised her that since she didn’t have time to call her church that we would make sure she had many, many prayers going up on her behalf after they took her. Please help by fulfill that promise by sending up a prayer on Mary’s behalf when read this.

Please also keep Sis Sandy Gilkerson in your prayers. She is having a very difficult time breathing and is trembling badly; they have called an ambulance to take her to the hospital in the last bit. For those that don’t know her, Sis Sandy has had an awful time with her health over the last couple of years. She’s not one to complain about it though, always jus praising the Lord for what she can, never mentioning what she can’t, do.

Also, Please remember Levi Brumbaugh in your prayers. His father, Luke, lost his battle with cancer today.
